Father’s Day gifts and garden furniture boosts online shopping

The economy might be in turmoil with many consumers unable to afford to pay their bills, but some must be doing ok as Yodel say that they are experiencing a surge in volumes this June due to people ordering more garden furniture and Father’s Day gifts.

Data from Yodel’s operations centre shows a strong rise in the number of bigger parcels travelling through its network and analysis of more than 5,000 online shoppers’ views suggests ecommerce gifting remains strong for Father’s Day, despite rising cost of living.

Yodel is scheduling additional trailers to meet demand, particularly for larger packages, as the warm weather tempts many into upgrading their outside space with new furniture.

The specialist parcel carrier has invested heavily in its capability to handle bigger parcels through its network, with the introduction of two £1m+ sortation systems at its Wednesbury and Shaw sites. It is also mobilising additional final mile drivers to ensure the smooth delivery of the extra volume.

People shop online for Father’s Day

Yodel’s award-winning customer feedback platform, Have Your Say, gathered the opinions of more than 5,000 shoppers over the last week to better understand the views of its customers and online shopping trends. The insights show how millions of Brits have been planning ahead for Father’s Day by shopping online – almost three quarters of respondents (70%) expected to purchase their gifts exclusively online, as opposed to the high-street, a significant increase on pre-pandemic levels.

The insights show that food and drink remain the most popular gift category, with over a third of respondents (35%) saying they’re buying consumables for their dad. 15% of customers intended to buy alcohol as a gift and the business has seen sharp a rise in the number of people ordering food and drink subscription boxes.

We’re proud to specialise in ‘everyday premium’ products like fresh food, drinks, flowers and pet food and the whole Yodel family steps up for key dates such as Father’s Day to ensure that our delicate items reach their destination safely and on time.
