What do the Government’s new measures mean for your business?

On Sunday 10th May at 7 pm BST, Boris Johnson announced a plan to modify and ease up the lockdown rules that the UK have been living under since mid-March. It includes being able to exercise as much as you want outside, as well as being able to meet with someone outside your household in an outdoor area as long as social distancing is still in place.

But the big one for most people was that within the new rules, some businesses will be allowed to re-open. In his announcement, Johnson stated that if your work in industries like manufacturing and are required to be on-site to work then you should do so, but with social distancing measures in place.

His advice was to stay vigilant and contain the spread of the virus to keep the rate of R under 1 and if you can work from home you should continue to do so. But where does this leave other businesses?

While some businesses have now opened their doors such as garages, warehouses and processing centres it seems that other businesses are still having to remain closed. There are still many businesses that require to work from a premise but are remaining closed and many of them on the high street.

We’ve already seen the likes of Primark who have a high street only solution suffer to the brink all because of their lack of an online shopping solution. It is now detrimental to businesses to not be selling online and we’ve seen how bad not evolving your business with the times can be.

For some, the announcement was a sigh of relief, while others are fearful of a second spike. With the Government’s new alert system it seems like there may be light at the end of the tunnel but for other businesses, re-opening may be something they can think about doing in the next few months.
