We recently came up with the concept of a customer-centered online pharmacy. It seamlessly connects patients with pharmacies, medical centers, and labs, as well as with local courier companies. How does it work? Meet Anna and her user journey with the Pharmacy of the Future.
What is the Pharmacy of the Future?
With the Pharmacy of the Future concept, we created an ideal model of modern pharmacy services. It puts people at the beginning of all processes and let them keep track of their medical data, get easy access to the drugs, and stay healthy in the long-run.
Pharmacy of the Future is a concept that leverages several modern technologies which are already popularized in other sectors; these include artificial intelligence, big data, machine learning, visual search, and voice commerce. They are all connected in the light architecture based on microservices and headless approach.

User journey of the diabetes patient using the Pharmacy of the Future
Let’s look at our exemplary user journey to understand how the Pharmacy of the Future can support any patient in the long-run.
Meet Anna!
Anna is a 30-year-old with diabetes. Each day she has to check her blood sugar and compensate it with insulin. She recently caught a cold… and here is where our story begins.
Integrated systems
When visiting the doctor, Anna usually needs to describe the symptoms of her cold and also details of her diabetes treatment. It takes some time and she often forgets about some details. Pharmacy of the Future changes this, as it gives Anna a system where she stores all medication information and treatment history. This new system is integrated with the medical center she is visiting and the doctor sees the history of her treatment on his screen. He can focus on the current cold and adjust new medications so they don’t interfere with other drugs that Anna has to take every day.
The new treatment is added to Anna’s profile. Directly from there, she can check out the closest pharmacy store where all the drugs are available and reserve them.
In-store convenience
On her way home, she visits the pharmacy where all the prescribed drugs are already waiting for her. This is convenient as she has a fever and the only thing she needs is to be back in her bed. This is possible thanks to the reservation of the drugs, but also thanks to the vending machines that are selling the most popular drugs and pharmacy products.
At the checkout, the pharmacist scans Anna’s profile and information about the purchased drugs, and its dosage information, are updated in her app—which is lucky, as she’s feeling groggy with fever and can’t remember the exact dosage of the new treatment.
Reminders
At home, Anna falls asleep. Her smartwatch takes care of the timing of treatment and reminds her about taking the medication at the right time. She marks it done once the drug is taken.
Barcode scanning
Anna is curious about one of the drugs that she has been prescribed. She uses her mobile phone camera to scan the drug’s barcode on the packaging and instantly she sees comprehensive information about this drug and possible interactions with her other drugs.
Instant expert support
Unfortunately, along with the treatment, she starts feeling some abdomen pains. Anna thinks that it is caused by one of the new drugs. To make sure, she uses the Pharmacy of the Future to contact the pharmacists’ support center and consults this matter in an instant, convenient way, via video chat.
Facilitating daily routines
Anna is better in just a few days and quickly returns to her daily routines but her diabetes is an illness that needs constant tracking. Her device to measure blood sugar level is integrated with the Pharmacy of the Future. It stores all measurements and shares them with Anna’s doctor. In case of a dangerous anomaly, the doctor gets info about it and acts instantly. At the right moment, Anna also gets a reminder about the check-up and a necessary lab visit.
Repeat orders and fast delivery
Every few weeks, Anna runs out of equipment for her device for blood sugar measurement. She uses her smart speaker, which seamlessly connects with the Pharmacy of the Future, to repeat the last order. Her app instantly adds order details and keeps track of the delivery time.
Luckily, her chosen pharmacy cooperates with a local delivery company, and she gets new equipment in just a few hours.
By combining modern technologies with data available at the pharmacies, medical centers, and smart devices, Anna can have better control over the process of her treatment and peace of mind that it is well adjusted to her needs.
Connecting all various solutions is possible thanks to the API technologies and system architectures built with a headless approach.
