With a strike already scheduled for Monday the 11th of July at Crown Post Offices, more July Post Office strikes have been called by the CWU in their ongoing pay dispute.
The newly announced strikes will hit Post Office collections and cash deliveries this month when supply chain and admin workers walk out on Thursday the 14th of July.
This strike will have more impact than the Crown Post Office strike on the 11th, while a nuisance, only 1% of the Post office Network are Crown Post Offices and so if you’re needing to ship parcels during the July Post Office Strikes you’ll probably find an alternative location not too far away that’s run by a third party. Supply and Admin strikes have a greater ability to hit the entire network even if the counters remain open.

The CWU dispute is in opposition to Post Office management’s current pay offer of a 3% pay deal for the 2022-23 financial year, alongside a one-off lump sum payment of £500, and no pay increase for the 2021-22 financial year. The CWU say that the proposals are far beneath the current RPI inflation rate of 11.7%, which they are, but the whole country is suffering and pay rises that keep up with inflation are unlikely for most workers so this dispute looks set to roll on, along with Royal Mail, BT, BA, Barristers and any number of other industries who will all be clamouring for higher pay this year.
The blame for this disruption lies entirely with the senior Post Office leadership, who have repeatedly failed – and wilfully refused – to set out a sensible and fair pay agreement.
Everyone knows that the only solution is a fair pay rise that properly rewards members for their extraordinary efforts in serving the public and delivering a profitable Post Office, while also taking account of the extreme cost of living. “There most certainly is money available, but management do not want to give workers their fair share.
Our message to the employer today is: don’t waste our members’ time by misleading statements. Stop the spin and get serious about pay. Until you do this, the strikes will continue.
