Carrefour have recently announced the launch of their online food marketplace in France. French consumers can now go to the Carrefour.fr website to browse over 100,000 products from more than a hundred retailers that will be available alongside the companies usual daily product range by the end of 2020.
“To meet consumer expectations, the entire Carrefour ecosystem has been undergoing a transformation over the past two years so as to promote the food transition and ensure digital solutions that will simplify daily life for all French consumers. With this grocery marketplace, which is the first to have such an ambitious range, our goal is to become the leading e-commerce site for our customers. This marks a new stage in the transformation of our omnichannel solutions”
– Elodie Perthuisot, executive director of e-commerce and marketing for Carrefour France
Developed in partnership with Mirakl, Carrefour’s marketplace is said to give consumers a uniquely interesting food shopping experience. The marketplace that was introduced to the companies french website at the beginning of June to strengthen their current range of products will let customers browse for their everyday products alongside new food items and special treats. The food products were added as a response to the emerging trends for healthy organic products, and free-from foods.
This isn’t a surprising move considering the current global demand for online food and grocery including the understandable desire for consumers to keep healthy and prevent the virus spread as much as they can. Having the ability to shop for a wide range of products on one website also saves consumers precious time and their purchases can be delivered directly to their homes throughout France.
“Carrefour has demonstrated that it can quickly innovate and make changes to the way it operates during this period of crisis. Applying the marketplace model to the food sector is an innovation at a time when consumers are using innovative new services to meet their new needs and face current challenges. Mirakl is delighted to join forces with Carrefour, lending its technology and expertise to this project that will transform an entire industry,”
