If like most of our customers, you’re a small business owner who wears many hats, you’ll find that your days go by within a blink of the eye and you may be left feeling like you haven’t achieved much. If you’re looking for ways to increase your productivity whilst ensuring that your business doesn’t suffer, read on for our top 5 productivity tips.

1. Bookmark your EKM shop login page

As a busy shop owner when you want to check your shop orders or add a new range of products, you’ll want to be able to do this as quickly and efficiently as possible. So next time you’ve logged into your shop dashboard go to the three dots in the top right-hand corner, then select ‘Bookmarks’ then choose ‘Bookmark this tab’ and select where you’d like to save it to.

Then next time you go to log into your shop, you will take to the login page automatically by using your bookmark and if you make sure to save your username and password to your browsers auto-fill, it will even log you back into your account too!

2. Value your time

As a shop owner sometimes it is easy to forget how valuable your time is. What we mean is there are many tasks that you do on a daily basis, perhaps some that you struggle with that you could look to outsource. And before your mind jumps to the costs associated with outsourcing, take a look at the cost to your business when you take 4 hours to do something that will take a professional 1 hour.

Outsourcing certain tasks, like design, accounting, social media etc to professionals will actually help you not only save time and money but it then frees you up to focus on running your business. Most times, your time is more valuable focusing on your business rather than on a task that will take you hours and may not be as high quality when you can hire a professional to do the job to a really high standard.

3. Automate processes

Leading on from the last point, automating your simplest processes can help to make your day to day so much easier. From small things such as order confirmation emails for your customers to managing your social media accounts.

Using tools such as Zapier can help you to automate processes within your business and help improve the quality of output. As you grow your business the processes you put in place at the beginning will also slowly evolve and their needs will also change. Whether they can mostly be automated or become another person’s responsibility will differ from task to task.

4. Write down tasks

This tip may seem simple but so many people just don’t do it and it can help you to stay on track and be productive and it all starts with writing down your tasks. Bullet Journaling has become a popular method for managing and prioritising your tasks, but even if you’ve never heard of it before or it didn’t work for you, try adapting it.

You can simply use it as a to do list for the day and prioritise your tasks by highlighting them in some way or you can try to create your own methods. As long as it works for you by keeping you accountable for tasks on a daily basis and if you don’t get around to a task on a particular day, make it a priority the next. Whatever works for you just make sure you’re writing things down.

5. Work your goals backwards

This one may sound a little strange but it can help to make your dream goals a reality. Write down a big goal for yourself or your business, and write down a list of how you could get there in steps.

For example, If your goal was to hit 1,000 visitors to your site, you would break down the steps to achieving it.

  • How do you get more traffic to your site?
    • Social Media
    • Organic SEO
    • Word of Mouth
    • Advertising
    • Content Marketing
  • Which of these are you not currently doing that you could be?
  • What does your budget allow for?
  • Which will make the most impact

And try to give yourself a small deadline for each of these so that you’re always moving forward and achieving your big goal once you’ve gone through each of the steps.
